Foyle Hospice has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Volunteer Coordinator for its Compassionate Communities Project. Working in partnership with community and statutory organisations, it aims to improve palliative and end of life care by supporting people who wish to remain living in their own homes and engaged with their own communities.

The Reach Out Scheme is the befriending part of the project which trains people ‘compassionate neighbours’ to provide emotional and social support to local people who are living with a terminal illness or frailty and are lonely or isolated. You will be training, matching and supporting neighbours to support others in the community, having direct experience with people who are facing serious illness.

We are seeking a candidate with community development experience and who has an interest in Palliative and End of Life Care. You will be enthusiastic, and driven with a creative and innovative flare, able to work with a variety of different people in the local community. It is essential that you have experience of delivering training and group sessions for people in the local community. Your personal drivers will be people motivated, putting others first and helping them to achieve their goals.

You will need:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience of working with community development projects and working with volunteers.
  • Experience of facilitating groups and delivering training.
  • Experience of being part of monitoring and evaluation of projects.
  • The ability to work with lots of different types of people.
